Spiced Hot Chai-colate

Jan 8, 2024 | Sweets and Treats

This spiced-up version of Paleo hot chocolate is absolutely fabulous! Chai tea is used in this recipe to add spice, but you can substitute in any tea of your choice. If you want to try an alternative to the chai tea, add a medley of spices to your preference. Spices like cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and a hint of black pepper will blend wonderfully!

Yields 1 (9-ounce) cup

• 1 bag chai tea
• 1/4 cup hot water, divided use
• 1-2 tablespoons cacao powder
• 1 cup almond or coconut milk
• 1 tablespoon coconut oil
• Raw organic honey, to taste
• 1–2 tablespoons whipped coconut cream, optional
• 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, optional

1. Add the tea to 1/8 cup of hot water and let it steep.

2. In a small saucepan, add the remaining 1/8 cup of hot water and the cacao powder, and whisk to combine. Stir in the milk and heat until warm. Add the coconut oil, and then add the honey, to taste.

3. Remove the tea bag from the water, add the steeped tea to the pan, and continue heating until the coconut oil has dissolved and steam is rising from the pan. Transfer to a large mug, and top off with a dollop of whipped coconut cream and a dash of cinnamon, if desired!
