LAVA FUDGE CUPCAKES

Makes 18 cupcakes

Lava is a super-hot substance that gurgles beneath the surface of Earth and sometimes erupts out of volcanoes. Lava can be anywhere from 1,300 to 2,200 degrees. It is made of rocks, dirt, and ash that are so hot they’ve melted together and become a fluid that flows along the ground burning up everything! After we learned about lava, we decided it’d be fun to make our own volcano cupcakes, with fudge “lava” inside.

INGREDIENTS

• 1 batch Red Brownie Cupcakes, cooled
• 1 batch Fudge Sauce, chilled
• 1 batch Chocolate Fudge Frosting or Creamy Not Cheese Frosting
• ¼ cup chocolate chips (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS AND HOW KIDS CAN HELP

1. Use an apple corer to remove the center of the thoroughly cooled cupcakes, careful not to punch through the liner.
2. Use piping bag or squeeze bottle (save those empty mustard containers!) to fill the cored portion of the cupcake with Fudge Sauce, careful not to overflow.
3. Top with Chocolate Fudge Frosting or Creamy Not Cheese Frosting and sprinkle with mini chocolate chips for extra fun.
