APPLE RINGS

Makes about 50 rings

You know what’s more delicious than an apple? Apples that don’t have a core or ever get bruised. We make these apple rings so we can snack on apples without getting sticky all the time. Put them in your lunch or keep some in the car for the next time you get really hungry but aren’t close to home. We bet you can’t eat just one!

INGREDIENTS

• 4 large apples (a mild flavor like Fuji, York, or Gala works best)

INSTRUCTIONS AND HOW KIDS CAN HELP

1. Peel and core your apples.
2. Carefully slice apples into rings 1/8 inch to ¼ inch thick with either a knife or mandolin. The thinner the more crispy the apple ring—your preference, but we like ours about ¼ inch thick so they have a little chew to them.
3. Dry in dehydrator on medium heat for 6 to 12 hours (apples should be dry yet flexible) or bake in oven in single layers on baking sheets at 170 degrees for 12-24 hours, checking for firmness.
